Australia Reverse Phone Lookup

This is a scam and has been entered under scam watch. Please warn people that you may know that are in need of extra money, elderly etc. There is no such department and no government or bank would phone you to say that you had money owing to you. If this was the case they would send a letter with the cheque attached.

Received same phone call from Australian Government Reclaim Department stating that I was to receive cheque for $5248 all had to do was ring this number 0280057523 and mention reference number that they had given me and money would be forwarded to my address. SCAM DO NOT DO ANYTHING JUST HANG UP

Received the same call as below. My guess is that they are trying to confirm your details, so dont confirm anything, do agree that the information with you is correct, and maybe even say they have it wrong. I am going to lodge a complaint with Telstra as well.

Hi I have just had a phone call from someone with an indian voice accent or similar to one telling me they are from the Reclaim department of the Australian Federal Government and they have a check for me for $5,248.00. I did not believe them as could see no reason the federal government would be giving me a check for this ammount at all. I realy think this was a scam the person gave me the name of her boss and a claim number as well as a phone call number to ring to arrange for them to send me the check and to check out the details of her information the phone number was 0280057523 suposidly as toll free number. I did not ring this number and I am reporting this here I did give them my home address first dont know if I should have done that but unfortunatly I did. I then after hanging up went on the net to find the claims department phone number but could find no phone number for any such department at all federallyseeing what others have said above me here I am pretty certain this is a scamm. I did not releaise straight away so kept queering them over the ligitamcy of this so I am reporting it here now and have no intenetion of ringing them at all

A similar call was received by an elderly relative. They told him to go to the Post Office and do a Western Union transaction which cost $199. Then ring a number he was given. Luckily enough on ringing the number and being told he would be contacting someone in India my relative got suspicious and tore up the Western Union Form. This is a very serious scam and needs to be reported ! Ive tried ringing the number but there is no reply.

I was given a call telling me that I had $5248 in transaction fees that would be refunded to Me by the "Australian Government Reclaim Department." They asked for me to confirm my address then call the above number to speak to supervisor, with a ref no they provided. I called back and asked them to confirm who they were working for before I gave any more details. They were forth coming and I then did a quick web search that showed they were running a scam.I promptly hung up and am looking for a way to report this.
